Wordpress toolkit: more ease of use through automatic updates and more!
As a website manager, you sometimes spend quite a bit of time maintaining your website. It is very important to maintain your website properly, otherwise leaks will occur more quickly and you have the risk of viruses. You can simplify the maintenance of your WordPress website by using the WordPress Toolkit in Plesk (the Hosting Manager). You no longer have to worry about updates, for example. I will explain how the WordPress Toolkit works and what the options are.
The WordPress Toolkit dashboard
If you go to the Hosting Manager via My Account and then click on 'WordPress' in the left sidebar, you will see the dashboard of the Toolkit.
You will see an image of your homepage and various options for your website. Don't see your website appear yet? Then click on 'Scan', if all goes well your website will appear.
You can also adjust the login details for your WordPress website in the dashboard at 'Administrator' -> 'Settings' if you wish.

You can see all kinds of functions for your website in the dashboard. I will discuss the most important options with you.
Don't have a WordPress website yet? On our 'WordPress hosting' page you choose a package that suits you. Then only register your domain name (if you don't have one yet) and install WordPress with one click via the WordPress Toolkit in the Hosting Manager. Tell me more about WordPress hosting!
Automatic updates
If you install WordPress on your hosting package, you will be given an option to enable automatic updates. I recommend that you do this, because then you no longer have to check for the updates yourself. Keeping your website up-to-date is important because there are regular updates that close leaks in plugins or themes.
Do you already have WordPress on your hosting package ? Then go to the Hosting Manager -> WordPress -> Updates -> Change settings and set all updates to 'Yes'.
You don't have to go to your WordPress dashboard every time to check for updates, because these are done automatically. It is good to keep an eye on your website every now and then, because it can happen that plugins or themes get an update that changes something in your website.
Security of your website
In addition to keeping your WordPress website up-to-date, the WordPress Toolkit also provides insight into the security of your website. If you go to the Toolkit (Hosting Manager -> WordPress) and then click on the 'Security' button, you will see a list of all kinds of points regarding the security of your website. If the security is good, you only have green check marks. Are there things that could be improved? Then you will see this and you can click on the 'i' for more information.

Insight into plugins and themes
The WordPress Toolkit also shows which plugins and themes you have installed on your website. In fact, you can also update, remove and even install new plugins or themes through the Toolkit.
Many hacks take place because a plugin or theme no longer receives an update from the developer. Do you have a plugin or theme that hasn't been updated for a long time? Then we recommend looking for an alternative.
You can therefore do part of your website management from the WordPress Toolkit, without having to log in to WordPress.
Other features
Other useful features of the WordPress Toolkit are maintenance mode, search engine indexing option and caching.
Maintenance mode
Are you going to (re) build your website? Make use of the maintenance mode in your WordPress Toolkit. Visitors will then see that your website is under maintenance and is therefore temporarily unavailable.
Indexing by search engines
Another handy option with the WordPress Toolkit that you can use while you are still creating your website is the Search Engine Indexing option. I only recommend this if you are really building a new website. Then you probably don't want your website to be found by search engines, because the website is not yet finished and will be placed low in the results.
If you already have a website and it is indexed, it is not useful to enable this option. After a while, you will no longer appear in the search results at all and lose your positions. That is a shame, because your website may actually climb up in the search results after the renovation / improvement of your website.

Caching - nginx
Enable 'Caching - nginx' for your website in the WordPress Toolkit to speed up the loading time of your website. With caching, a copy of your website or page is stored so that it is immediately loaded when your visitor visits your website again. There is no need to make contact with the server first, as is the case on the first visit.
So there are a lot of advantages to the WordPress Toolkit that increase the ease of use for you. Do you also want to get started with our WordPress hosting and the handy Toolkit? You will find the different packages on our 'WordPress hosting' page.
